NYC is everything you could imagine. From the lights, food, and shopping there's no better place to spend a trip here with your mother. Here are some tips and places on how to make the most of your NYC trip.

1. Times Square

Times Square is one of the most well known spots in the world. People from all over gather here to see the lights, builings, street performers, and more. The energy is unmatched . It can be overwhelming at first, but don't let that intimate you. Once you get past all of the commotion, the sights of this square is beautiful. This is the perfect spot to get your trip started.

2. HopOnHopOff Bus Tour

This may seem like a tourist trap but it's not. You get your money's worth with plenty of sights to see. The tickets are good for two days and you can choose a night or day tour. The day tour you can see Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building and more. The night tour consists of the same thing except going to the Empire State Building since hours are limited.

Our tickets included access to the Empire State Building, and it's very helpful since you don't have to pay extra for another ticket.

3. Shopping

One of my favorite mother/daughter activities! What better way to blow off some time than to go shopping? The best place to go is the legendary 5th avenue. The stores are several stories tall with many options to choose from. The window displays are beautiful with their unique decorations. Plus when you buy something it's a nice reminder of your time in NYC.

Tiffany & Co. on 5th avenue. Each floor has different types of jewelry, for example the 2nd floor was just diamond rings.

4. St. Patrick's Cathedral

This is one of the most breathtaking buildings in NYC. The architecture and interior design speaks for itself. The tour includes a walk around the cathedral while the tour guide speaks about the history and art. It is best to reserve a time for the tour. At the end, you can light a candle and say a prayer in front of one of the saints statues. Each saint represents a different purpose. For example St. Christopher represents protection.

This statue shown here is of Mary and Jesus during the cruxifixction. What's so special about this statue is that, when the Pope visited he was so overwhelmed that he prayed in front of this statue for two hours.

5. Free Shows

Yes you read that right, free shows. Places such as the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and "Live with Ryan and Kelly" are free. Tickets are set up about a month in advance. All you have to do is go on the website a little bit before the tickets are available.

If you don't make the cut for the actual taping of Jimmy Fallon, there's an option to see his "monologue". This is before the actual taping of the show. The writers and Jimmy test out the jokes that might be used in the show. He says the jokes while writing on a notepad. Video taping and pictures are STRICTLY prohibited. They will ask you to delete the content and kick you out of the show.

*Make sure you watch the show the same night. You might hear some of the jokes he tested at the monologue.

For Live with Ryan and Kelly is the same way on getting tickets. Make sure you get there early to get a good seat since spots are limited. You can take pictures and videos since this show is live. It's great to see how they do everything behind the scenes.

6. Broadway

Last but not least, Broadway! This is one of the best things about NYC. The acting, music, and costumes are everything you could imagine and more. Tickets are online and price depends on where the seats are. Each play has its own theater. They are not all on one street. This is a great way to end your trip on a high note (no pun intended).

Stage of Wicked.

New York City has plenty to offer for a perfect mother/daughter trip. The things you do are great but the memories you share will last a lifetime.
